Born in Seville, Spain into a mixed family with a Spanish father and a Georgian mother from Tbilisi. Abandoning his post as Alcalde Mayor, he marooned himself in the mountain of Moalboal, Cebu. He survived against the growing hostility of Filipino Nationalism that toppled down the Spanish occupation because a Filipino Family had provided him safe refuge. It was the Gaballo family that asked him to change his identity for their own safety and protection to avoid repercussion. The change using ’Tubal’ plus ’ado’ points toward the maternal origin of Dionisio Cristobal, meaning he used the tribal heritage of his mother to cover his paternal name.
Mga Kaigsoonan,
I am going to jump start the myth of our family name post.
According to Prudencio Sr., Our great grandfather who settled in Moalboal, Cebu from Sevilla, Spain during the Spanish rule in the Philippines, changed his last name from Cristobal to Tubalado. He did this to be able to stay with his family and escape from being deported back to Spain during the American occupation.
